Wireless Networking in a K-12 Setting
Two students will be involved in assisting the NSFNET wireless connectivity and work with the new Network Information Center (NIC) staff person at Arizona Western College and at Arizona State University. The ASU student will research cost-effective wireless intranet solutions for schools connected under the Wireless Connectivity in Western Arizona grant as well as acting as a liaison to the Arizona Western College NIC.

This project will develop HTML documentation detailing the procedures that a local school districts could use to create low cost intranet solutions for implementing internet connectivity within a school or library setting. The focus of the study will be wireless solutions. Existing wireless network documentation either fails to address academic system concerns, or does so in a manner that is often too technical for the average site computer coordinator. A detailed study would provide an understandable and replicable model for schools seeking alternatives to costly building alterations. [ more ]
