Instructional Media Design
College of Education Gloria Wilson, Ph.D, Project Director
In 1993, the Educational Media and Computers program in the Col lege of Education in partnership with Intel Corporation produced the world's first college accredited course on CD-ROM, Instructional Media Design (IMD). The course is self-instructional, giving students the opportunity to develop skills at their own pace and allowing them the time to review and explore. Users of the course are introduced to various forms of media and media design through the use of text, audio, video, graphics, and animation. The interactive course is designed to give users experience in solving and producing solutions to real-world instructional design problems. Research on the effectiveness of the IMD CD-ROM has been encouraging. In the four yea rs since the CD-ROM was produced, technology has changed drastically. A new version of the IMD CD-ROM is currently being planned which takes advantage of these advancements. Major goals of the revision include: cross platform capabilities, tracking user m ovement and responses through the non-linear instruction, increased interactivity, and web delivery of some instructional sequences. A web site will also be developed and updated regularly. Dr. Wilson is particularly interested in the distance e ducation aspects of this course. Students in England, Japan, Sweden, Israel, and Germany have received college credit for this course. |
