The Concerto website is on a PowerMac 6100 on loan from Apple Computer.

Instigated by ASU Professor Thomas Bacon, a consortium of ten organizations has undertaken the commission of a new musical composition from a major composer. Specifics are as follows:

Composer:
David Maslanka
Genre:
Concerto for two Horns and Wind Orchestra
Simultaneous Premiere:
  April 7, 1998
  6:30 pm West Coast
  (9:30 East Coast)
Organizations Involved:
  Arizona State University
  Florida State University
  Interlochen Arts Academy
  Ithaca College
  University of Alabama
  University of Iowa
University of Missouri at Kansas City
  University of North Texas
  University of Oregon
  Western Michigan University

It is hoped that the premiere will be transmitted live from each site on the evening of the premiere. The Interlochen Arts Academy will not be able to perform the piece that night, but the other nine organizations will.

A Web Page will be set up that will receive video and audio transmissions from each of the nine sites, and allow people worldwide to choose whichever one they want to view. It is also hoped that live (or delayed) broadcast of the concert at Arizona State University can be coordinated with NPR and/or PBS.

The aspect of the simultaneous premiere will be used to fullest advantage to generate public interest and build an audience for the event, both live at each performance site, and via electronic transmission.
